Squarespace Website Design & SEO Case Study for Cochrane, Alberta Wedding Photographer
When your work is beautiful… but your website isn’t doing it justice
There’s something quietly frustrating about knowing your work is strong — the kind that people save, share, and feel something from — and still feeling like your website isn’t quite pulling its weight.
Not because it’s bad, necessarily.
But because it isn’t fully reflecting the depth, care, and intention behind what you do.
And more importantly, it isn’t consistently bringing in the kind of inquiries you were hoping for when you first launched.
This is exactly where Filmed by Silas Weddings found themselves.
Silas and Britney had built something incredibly special — a wedding photography and videography brand rooted in timeless, cinematic storytelling. Their work carried emotion, movement, and meaning in a way that felt both modern and enduring.
And as their business began to grow, it became clear that they needed a digital home that could not only showcase that artistry, but support the next chapter of their business.
Not just something beautiful.
Something intentional.
The vision: a website that feels as elevated as the work itself
From the beginning, this project wasn’t about simply “updating” a website.
It was about building a brand and online presence that could:
Reflect the emotion and elegance of their work
Attract more aligned, high-value clients
Support their growth across Manitoba and beyond
And create a seamless experience that gently guides visitors from inspiration → inquiry
Because in the wedding industry, your website isn’t just a portfolio.
It’s often the first impression someone has of what it would feel like to work with you.
“Kaylee was able to bring our design dreams to life. She was a super attentive designer who was collaborative and quick to respond to questions and ideas. Kaylee was there for us every step of the way. We love our new website, and the investment was absolutely worth it.”
— Filmed by Silas Weddings
The brand: timeless, cinematic, and quietly confident
We started with brand design — because before someone reads a single word, they’re already forming a feeling.
Silas and Britney’s work naturally balances contrast and harmony: softness and sophistication, real emotion and refined composition. So it was important that their brand could hold that same duality.
I spent time immersed in their galleries, noticing the patterns that kept appearing:
golden hour light
movement in fabric and landscape
natural textures and tones
emotion that felt real, not staged
From there, we developed a visual identity that feels:
✶ Soft but structured
✶ Modern yet timeless
✶ Refined without being overly formal
The color palette was intentionally designed to sit alongside their work, not compete with it — allowing their imagery to remain the focal point while still creating a cohesive, elevated experience across the site.
It’s the kind of brand that doesn’t need to be loud to feel strong.
The website: designed around their work, not the other way around
One of the biggest shifts in this project came from a simple but important decision:
Their work would lead everything.
Instead of building a template-style layout and placing images into it afterward, each page was designed around their photography and films, allowing their portfolio to take center stage while the structure quietly supports the journey.
Because for high-ticket services like wedding photography and videography, potential clients are paying attention to more than just visuals.
They’re asking:
Do I trust them?
Do I feel something when I look at their work?
Can I picture myself in these moments?
So the website needed to communicate both:
→ the artistry of their work
→ and the professionalism of their process
We approached this by:
Creating a homepage flow that moves naturally from emotion → clarity → trust → inquiry
Structuring service pages to feel both inspiring and informative
Thoughtfully tiering their packages to reflect their value and encourage bundled photo + video bookings
Weaving in personal touches and brand values without overwhelming the experience
Designing galleries that tell individual love stories, creating deeper emotional connection
Nothing feels forced or overly “salesy.”
Instead, the site gently guides visitors toward the next step — in a way that feels aligned with how people actually make decisions when choosing someone to capture their wedding.
The SEO strategy: building visibility from the very beginning
While the design was rooted in storytelling and experience, the backend was built with just as much intention.
From the start, this project included a full SEO Intensive, ensuring that the website wouldn’t just look good — it would also be discoverable.
We implemented:
Local SEO targeting Manitoba-based wedding searches
Strategic keyword integration across pages and headings
Optimized page titles and meta descriptions
Clean site structure for improved crawlability
Internal linking between services, galleries, and key pages
Alt text and image optimization (especially important for visual-heavy sites)
Rather than layering SEO on afterward, it was integrated directly into the design and development process — which is where it becomes the most effective.
The results: more traffic, more visibility, more aligned inquiries
Within just 30 days of launching, the impact was significant.
The new website saw:
✶ 600% increase in clicks
✶ Rankings for 20+ keywords on page one of Google
✶ Top positioning for core service-related searches
✶ 4x increase in weekly inquiries
And beyond the numbers, there was a noticeable shift in the type of inquiries coming in.
More aligned couples.
More appreciation for their work.
More clarity in what they offer.
This is what happens when your website is not only beautiful, but built with intention behind the scenes.
What this means for your website (especially if you’re a Calgary-based photographer or creative)
Even though Filmed by Silas Weddings is based in Manitoba, this is something I see often with photographers and creatives here in Calgary as well.
You may have:
a strong portfolio
a clear style
and a website that technically “shows your work”
But if your site isn’t:
guiding visitors intentionally
reflecting your level of experience
or optimized to be found in local searches
Then it may not be supporting your growth the way it could be.
And the shift isn’t always about doing more.
Often, it’s about refining what’s already there — with strategy.
If you’re ready for a website that actually supports your bookings
Whether you’re a wedding photographer, creative, or service-based business owner, your website should feel like an extension of your work — not something that holds it back.
✨ A space that reflects your artistry
✨ Supports your visibility on Google
✨ And helps bring in the kind of clients you actually want to work with
If that’s what you’re looking for, I’d love to support you.
