There’s a moment I see happen often after a client goes through an SEO Intensive.

Their website feels clearer, more grounded, and more aligned with what they actually do and who they want to work with. And for the first time, it feels like their site might finally start working with them instead of sitting quietly in the background.

And then comes the question:

“Okay… now what?”

But the truth is, SEO isn’t about perfection.

It’s about consistency, clarity, and small, intentional updates over time.

And once your site has been set up properly (which is exactly what we do inside the SEO Intensive), maintaining it becomes much simpler than most people expect.

This guide is here to walk you through exactly how to do that.

First, what your SEO Intensive actually set up (and why it matters)

Before we talk about maintenance, it’s important to understand what’s already been built, because this is the part that often gets underestimated.

Inside your SEO Intensive, your website wasn’t just “optimized.”

It was strategically structured.

This included:

  • Keyword research aligned with your services, audience, and location

  • SEO titles and meta descriptions written to improve visibility

  • Page-by-page heading structure (H1, H2, H3) for clarity and ranking

  • Refined website copy that naturally integrates your keywords

  • Internal linking between key pages

  • Image optimization and alt text setup

  • Technical cleanup to support indexing and crawlability

This is your foundation.

And moving forward, your role isn’t to rebuild this.

It’s simply to maintain and build on it.

How often should you actually be doing SEO maintenance?

This is where I like to simplify things.

You don’t need to be in your website every week adjusting things or second-guessing what’s working.

Instead, I recommend a simple rhythm:

A quarterly SEO check-in (every 3–4 months)

Think of it like resetting your space at the start of a new season. You’re not tearing everything apart — you’re just making sure everything still feels aligned, clear, and intentional.

Your step-by-step SEO maintenance process

When you sit down for your quarterly check-in, here’s exactly what to walk through.

1. Revisit your core pages with fresh eyes

Start with your homepage, services, and about page.

Open each one slowly, and read through it as if you were a potential client landing there for the first time.

Ask yourself:

  • Is it immediately clear what I do and who I serve?

  • Does this reflect where my business is now, not where it was months ago?

  • Are there any sections that feel outdated, vague, or overly wordy?

You’re not rewriting everything here.

You’re simply refining: tightening language, updating small details, and making sure everything still feels aligned.

2. Check and refine your SEO titles and descriptions

Next, move into your page settings and review your SEO titles and meta descriptions.

These should clearly reflect:

  • your service

  • your audience

  • and (if applicable) your location

For example, instead of something general like:
“Home | My Business”

You want something more intentional like:
“Squarespace Web Design for Calgary Small Businesses | Endeavor Design Studio”

If your services or focus have shifted at all, this is a good place to update.

3. Review your headings (H1, H2, H3) for clarity and structure

Headings help both your readers and Google understand your content.

As you review each page, look for:

  • one clear H1 per page (your main topic)

  • supportive H2s that break up sections

  • simple, readable phrasing (not keyword stuffing)

If something feels cluttered or overly complex, simplify it.

Clear structure always performs better than trying to over-optimize.

4. Strengthen your internal linking

As your website grows, this step becomes more and more important.

Look for natural opportunities to link between your pages.

For example:

  • from a blog post → to a service page

  • from your homepage → to a case study

  • from a service page → to a related blog

This helps guide your visitors through your site and strengthens your SEO at the same time.

5. Optimize any new images you’ve added

This is one of those small steps that makes a big difference over time.

Before uploading an image, make sure to:

  • rename the file using descriptive keywords (e.g. calgary-wedding-photographer-gallery.jpg)

  • add alt text that clearly describes the image

If you’ve uploaded images quickly in the past, this is a great time to go back and fill in any missing details.

A simple SEO content list you can return to

If you ever feel stuck on what to create next, here’s a simple list you can come back to:

  1. A recent client project or transformation

  2. A common client question you answer often

  3. A “how-to” related to your service

  4. A local-focused post (Calgary, Alberta, etc.)

  5. A breakdown of your process

  6. A comparison or decision-based post (e.g. platforms, services, approaches)

You don’t need to do all of these at once.

Just choose one and start there.

What SEO maintenance actually looks like over time

When done this way, SEO becomes something much more manageable.

You’re not constantly tweaking or overthinking.

You’re simply:

  • refining your existing pages

  • keeping your content aligned

  • and adding to your site with intention

And over time, that consistency builds.

When it might be time for another SEO update

There will come a point where your business evolves beyond your current setup.

Maybe your services shift.
Maybe your audience changes.
Maybe you’re ready to grow into a new market.

That’s when it can be helpful to revisit your SEO more deeply.

Not because anything is “wrong”, but because you’re ready for the next level of alignment.

If you want support maintaining or refining your Squarespace SEO or Wix SEO…

This is exactly what my SEO Intensive is designed for.

Not just to set up your website — but to give you a foundation that’s clear, strategic, and built to grow with you.

And if you’re at the point where you’d rather have someone guide that process again (or take it off your plate entirely), I’d love to support you.
